When I do this type of provisional cast on, I don't count the slip knot as a stitch, but I DO count the yarn that goes from the slipknot around the bottom cable then up to the first top stitch as a stitch for the cable/bottom row.. as you can see in photo 8, with the slip knot up, there is a bottom stitch being held in place. When you remove the slip knot but weave the yarn tail in, the bottom stitch will remain secure but there won't be an ugly knot in the middle of your back!

Second note: don't stress about whether you've lost a stitch or not, because one stitch isn't a big deal for this pattern since there is no structured stitch repeat that requires a specific number of stitches in the body of the sweater.

If a new knitter was already comfortable with provisional cast-ons (maybe through learning Cat Bordhi's mobius cast on?) and Magic Loop, this is do-able. I can see how it would be scary to someone who doesn't have those skills yet.

The benefit of knitting it this way is that the light, airy fabric doesn't have any seams interrupting its beauty.

Sorry, my Veronique hasn't actually been finished, I got excited about other projects and working on my own designs so it has been in a bin for a couple years :(

When you say'Slip knot from original cast-on now removed", do you mean to untie the knot completely? Won't you lose one stitch?

This sounds pretty scary to a relatively new knitter. What's the benefit of knitting Veronique this way? Do you have pic of your finished V?

Hi Mandy,

The ballistic nylon has a finer/more sophisticated look to it than the Cordura, which has a much larger, more rugged and visible weave... though they both look sporty compared to the Ultrasuede and Cork!
I don't think the key strap comes included with the Swift, but a medium stuff sack and a Tom Bihn ruler does!

Great reviews! I was unable to resist any further and I just bought a Swift in cork. I'll let you know what I think when it gets here, but I'm sure I'm going to love it. I had to search the Tom Bihn forums for two questions. One was what is the difference between ballistic nylon and cordura? And the other question (that I didn't find) is does the key strap come with the Swift or do you have to buy it separately?
